Mack and Benjamin share a strong bond; Mack is Benjamin’s father. At
least that is what our vet tells us. This bond is apparent when they are
observed cuddling together. Mack is very protective of Benjamin and Benjamin is
never very far from Mack.
That is why they must be adopted together.
Mack is 4 to 5 years old. He has a loving personality, not only towards
Benjamin but also towards his humans. It took about a week to earn his trust;
he must have had a rough time. The scars on his side look like burn scars and
he was dumped in a night box at the local pound without any note of
explanation, with Benjamin. So there is no known prior history and yet he is so
full of love. Mack thrives on attention. He will join us on the couch and ask
for a belly rub. He loves a brisk throat rub, from his chest to his jaw. He
does well with other dogs; he will not try to be the Alpha dog in a group. He
does a little running in a circle dance in appreciation for his food. We feed
him in separately, in the bathroom or in another room.
Benjamin is about 2 years old and still a little shy. When we got him, a quick
gesture, a raised voice or a loud noise would send him scooting under the couch
or running for Mack. Now he also runs to Cecile for protection and comfort. He
is presently a lot more confidant so we believe he should do well in a new
home, with Mack for moral support. He will get attached to the person who feeds
him and gives him daily care. He will return the affection a hundredfold. We
feed him in his kennel because we noticed that he would pick at his food, move
to another bowl of food and another without really eating his fill. By
isolating him we made him concentrate on finishing his bowl.
We feed them Science Diet dry food topped with a little wet food such as
chicken or liver, with a little chicken broth twice a day. They love to run and
romp in the yard and challenge the neighbor’s dogs, so a doggy door would let
them go in and out at will. If the barking gets a little too much, I use an
orange whistle from a boat safety jacket to call them back inside the house.
They have not been much in contact with cats and they are curious about ours.
If the cat runs, they would probably instinctively chase it. If the cat ignores
the dogs, there will be no problems. They have both been neutered.
Anyone who adopts Mack and Benjamin will adopt a bundle of love. If you would
like to adopt these sweet babies please fill out an
application and put their names on it.
