Meet the sweetest senior odd couple, Chili and Chopper. Chili and
Chopper are a bonded pair that came to my home in rescue after their former
owner dropped them off at an animal shelter to be put down. Owners were moving
and decided rather than take this old retired couple with them they would put
them down. Chili is a 12 year old, 8 pound girl in great health. She is
extremely protective of everything and everyone she loves. She’s especially
protective of Chopper. We believe may be a clue to what happened to her little
ears. She has to notches in each ear where we think she had been attacked by
someone or something a long time ago. Her ears stick straight out thus giving
her the nickname “Moose”. Chili is very affectionate and loves her naps. She’s
not very playful, I suppose she’s too old for that but will tap you with her
little paw when she wants your love or attention. She loves her belly rubbed
and loves to burrow under warm blankets. Chili is also the huntress of the
group and will hunt and chase anything and everything and if caught she will
bring it to you! Chili’s side kick, Chopper is a 9 year old, 15 pound boy in
good health. He’s black with little tan paws. Chopper is extremely shy,
extremely cautious and extremely submissive. I suppose he has to be with Chili
bossing him around! Chopper will take some patience and time to get to know his
new home before he comes out of his shell but once he’s comfortable, Chopper is
very affectionate and very playful. He does have a chronic ear infection that
is not contagious and will take some drops and cleaning to keep under control.
Chili and Chopper do everything together. They eat together, sleep together and
are bonded to the extreme. I have never met two dogs so bonded. They really
freak out if you try to separate them and because of this they will need to be
adopted together and STAY together. I would even go as far to say that if and
when something happens to one or the other, their new home should be prepared
to get the other a new companion. They both get along well with other dogs and
I think would be fine with kids who understand dachshunds and would treat them
properly. They love being outside and would love to have a fenced in yard to
play in. It’s obvious they have never been walked on a leash but they do
tolerate it long enough to potty. This senior couple is located in the
Panhandle area and sure to bring joy to the right home. If you are interested
in being Chili and Chopper’s forever home, please fill out an
application with Chili and Chopper on it or
feel free to e-mail the foster home at
