We have many older dachshunds in need of Forever Homes before you pass them by please read this

These are Desiree Webber's thoughtful and original responses to typical reactions to adopting an older pet

I don't want an old dog"
My response: Oh, I'm sorry..........I don't have any dogs that won't get old.

"I want a young dog so I can train it"
My response: Oh, you mean you haven't learned anything new since becoming an adult?

"I don't want a dog that will die"
My response: Oh, I'm sorry..........I don't have any dogs that won't die.

"I just couldn't bear to get attached to a dog and then have it die"
My response: You mean you haven't made any new friends since kindergarten and you don't ever plan on making any other new ones for fear they will die?

And my very favorites when talking to a senior person about adoption:
* We don't believe in age discrimination..........we hope you don't either.
* We do not believe in age discrimination......we do however believe in age appropriate adoptions.

Please as you look at the dogs we have available for adoption please consider loving an older Doxie

You will always receive a reply that I  received your application.
If you do not get an answer that I have received your application in a few days, Please email CDore777@aol.com directly and I will be able to help you.

Please read before submitting an application

Florida Dachshund Rescue has a long waiting list of approved homes seeking
rescue dachshunds. We want everyone to experience the love a rescue doxie
will bring, but please note that an adoption could take a few months. While
we can usually process your application in a couple of weeks, we might not
have a dog right away that will fit into your home.
We are a small group and currently care for 20-25 dogs, yet we've received
overwhelming response to our adoption program. In essence, the demand far
outstrips the supply, which is even more evident with young dogs. Puppies
and young adults will draw many applications. Your chances of success will
be greater with a little older dog. Remember, dachshunds are a long-lived
breed -- many living to 15-17 years if properly maintained.

Alfie

Why hello there! My name is Alfie and I am an active senior that loves to play with balls and empty 2 liters. I found my fascination with the empty 2 liters when I realized that they made great toys and they are very loud! They are perfect for getting attention from the humans. I like to play tug-of-war with a KONG toy.

Pokey

My name is Pokey and I was just surrendered to Florida Dachshund Rescue. I am a girl full of energy and I love to play with stuffed animals. I will tear them up and have fun with the stuffing all over the floor. I am adjusting to my foster home and I have fallen in love with one of my foster dads. He keeps telling me he loves me, but not to get too attached to being here as I am going to find a new forever home.

Sadie Adopted!!

Looking for a special home for a very special girl!! Sadie was recently surrendered to FLDR by her owner, who was unable to take care of Sadie's medical needs. Due to the negligence of her owner by not having Sadie diagnosed and treated for diabetes, she is now totally blind.

Molly

Hello world! I’m Molly and I am currently accepting applications for those interested in being my forever family. I am a five year old, red, smooth girl. I weigh 16 pounds; I am up to date on all my shots, spayed and healthy. In order for me to choose you as my forever home there are some things you should know about me. First off…when I bust through the door of my new forever home, you will know I have arrived! My foster mom refers to me as the Diva

Stretch Callie & Lacey

These three are a bonded trio, together since birth and very attached to each other. All have their quirky differences, but they would not do well without each other. Therefore, they will only go to a home that will take all three. The adoption fee has been adjusted to try to help with that.

Pickles Adopted!!

Hi, my name is Pickles and I'm special---at least that's what everybody says!! I'm looking for a very special family to adopt, love and keep me safe. A few weeks ago I got hit by a car and both my back legs were hurt really bad. I stayed at the vet's office for about a week.

Walker

Howdy everyone, my name is Walker (not Texas Ranger, but I get that a lot) and I'm a loving, senior man looking for my forever home. My dad works too much and I spend long hours by myself, which I don't like at all. He says that I've come along way since I came to live with him 4 years ago. It may take me a little time and patience to get comfortable with you but once I am I'm yours.

Dudley

Hello world - name’s Dudley. (Actually, no one knows what my original name was. This is the name my foster parents picked out for me.) I’m a gorgeous little man who loves to terrorize squeaky toys and run through the house.

Harley

Hi I'm Harley. My foster mom keeps telling me how sweet I am Look how cute My pictures are and maybe you'll want to take me to love you forever??

Mack and Benjamin

Mack and Benjamin share a strong bond; Mack is Benjamin’s father. At least that is what our vet tells us. This bond is apparent when they are observed cuddling together. Mack is very protective of Benjamin and Benjamin is never very far from Mack.
That is why they must be adopted together.

Dolly

Hey Friends, I'm Dolly. I came into rescue because my previous owner wanted to put me to sleep since I became paralyzed! THANKFULLY the vet called Dachshund Rescue Of South Florida and, in turn, Florida Dachshund Rescue. They not only saved my life, they got me the surgery to hopefully help me walk again!

Ollie

Hi! My name is Ollie. I’m a male (neutered) 2-year-old silver dapple dachshund. I was rescued from an abusive home and taken to the animal shelter. That is where my foster mom got me. I was heartworm positive and very underweight. My foster mom took me to the vet and had me treated for heartworms (that wasn’t fun) and started feeding me healthy food and now I am doing great.

Peanut

OK, so maybe not a full-blooded dachshund, but don't you think he's handsome? Peanut came to FLDR from a Florida shelter after he was turned in by his owners who "just didn't want him anymore". Initially a little bit shy of new people, he warms up quickly if you get down on his level and let him do the greeting. He is good with other dogs,

Barny and Lucy

These are two beautiful doxies. The two of them came together and really need to stay together. Barny is about 4 yrs and 10.6 pounds and a black and tan with merle underneath. He is an absolute love. He is truly a puppy at heart. He loves to play, get tummy rubs and just wants to nestle up next to you. He is soft as silk. Barny adores Lucy who has the most beautiful clear coat. Lucy is about 5 years old and about 13.5 (we will have her drop about a pound) and has been affected more then Barny from being bounced around. So when she’s a little scared she looks for Barny.

Missy

Hello! My name is Missy; I am an 8 year old mini female. I came into the rescue after my former family dropped me off at a shelter in Brevard County. When FLDR took me into their care, they found out I had a few health issues to get under control. My foster mom thinks I am a survivor and a great example of my breed! I went under anesthesia to get myself spayed, 11 teeth removed (I still have plenty left in my mouth), several mammary tumors and a few warts. The biopsy came back negative for cancer! YAY!!! I am good to go.
Since people think I was bred over and over again, my body took a little time to adjust to no more hormones. I have a waist line now and my little nipples finally stopped producing milk. My back is in great shape, I guess I could be a wiener model.
